So I know its hard to believe but yes you guys I have 100% natural hair.. well under the wigs and weave anyway.
I have been growing my hair natural for the last two years and let me tell you its not as easy as you think..
So just a little background. I was givien my first relaxer at the age of 11. Now normally they say to wait until your child is 13 years old before you give them a relaxer but in this case we had to start early. lol.My mom didn’t do it because she felt I didnt have good hair or that I had bad hair she did it so that my hair could be easy to manage.
Now I know you are wondering what that means. It means I had a head full of thick, “nappy” or “kinky” hair. Everytime that lady pulled out a comb I would run. kick, scream and cry for her not to touch my damn head. Even though I wasn’t that tender headed parents hav a way of doing your hair in a way that seems like they are letting out their anger on your damn head.
But thats a whole other story.. So After all those damn years of a hair routine.. Every two weeks wash and set, every month a deep conditioner, every two months a damn touch up I decided to say FUCK IT!!
I felt that my hair had lost some of its thinkness and my edges started thinning.. Now anyone whoe know me personally knows that I am a bit crazy when it comes to my damn hair. i will cut it, color it and weave it but its always healthy and well taken care of. So for this to happen made no sense. This happened after a shoot I did for a popular hair magazine and the stylist relaxed only my edges for this dope hair style and the relaxer was a bit strong for my edges. 🙁
So I started growing my hair out and ignoring relaxers until my new growth was about 8 months in.. Yes I said it 8… not 6 or 4 but 8 months in and cut all of the relaxer hair off.. Yep, I waited til after I washed my hair and while it was wet I just cut the straight hair off. It was a bold move on my part but I did it. I wanted to make sure that my new growth was long enough to braid so that I could get my weaves and wear my girls.. sorry thats what I call my wigs they are my girls and they all have names. POW….
I did all of this two years ago and since then I have been seeing great results. I am still trying to find the right products for my hair which is a pain in my ass and a bit of a dent in my pocket but so far I have tried Pantene Pro V’s line for Women of Color and that worked for a few months but after the few months it seemed to stop working. One thing I remember from when I had relaxed hair was that you have to change hair products sometimes so that your hair does not become used to it. So then I started using Motions CPR products and so far so good. I have been using it for almost 6 months and its still working great. It is a great line to try cause its does exactly that CPR to you hair..
Now I am still trying to find a great product for my edges, which has been growing in but then thinning out.. I am going to try this product called Mega Tek.. It is normally used for horses but works with humans as well. I used to use this shampoo and conditioner by Tail and Mane that was for horses and my hair grew extremely fast. So we will see. I plan to mix the Mega tek though because it is a Protein overload so I will mix it wil a few oils to balance the potein out.
For now I will contue to use my Doo Gro product, castor oil, and coconut oil until the mega tek comes in.
I guess I will keep a log on my Hair Journey… If you have ideas and advice feel free to tell me or if you just want to add your two cents leave a comment as well 🙂
